Forgiveness

“Forgiveness” means that you give up your right to revenge.

Forgiveness is one of the major problems in the life of many Christian people. We are told by God’s Word that we must forgive each other, “…and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” (Colossians 3:13). Yes, you read it right. We MUST forgive.

Forgiveness helps you! When we hold on to unforgiveness we are hurting ourselves. Jesus tells us that when we do not forgive someone then we are unable to be forgiven by God (Matt. 6:15).

You will become like a kitchen sink that has a blockage and cannot drain. Everything just builds up and runs over. And until you can clear that blockage out of the pipes, your sink cannot be used. That is what happens to you spiritually when you do not forgive someone. Your own sins are unable to be forgiven and darkness begins to take over. And the only way to clear your sin block is for you to forgive the person. Then your heavenly Father can forgive you.

I hope you can see that forgiveness isn’t about the other person. It is about you. Your heavenly Father will give you the power to forgive. But, you must ask Him for that power. Remember, Jesus FORGAVE us, even while we still were His enemies. We are most like Christ when we forgive our enemies.
